It appears the WVU football program has their new running backs coach. West Virginia is set to hire Kentucky running backs coach and special teams coordinator Jay Boulware to replace Larry Porter, per FootballScoop.

Boulware has been in his current role with Kentucky since 2023, serving under former UK head coach Mark Stoops.

Prior to joining the Wildcats, he spent time in various positions with Texas, Oklahoma, Auburn, Iowa State, Utah, Stanford, Arizona and North Illinois, mostly coaching running backs and tight ends.

Porter, who came to West Virginia to replace Chad Scott and be Rich Rodriguez’s first running backs coach of his second tenure, decided to depart the Mountaineers for the same job with Auburn in the SEC.

No formal announcement from WVU about the hiring of Boulware has been made.
