Top WVU Football LB Target Reveals Information About Commitment Plans

On one hand, the WVU football staff has already locked up a significant number of 2025 recruits. But on the other hand, they are still waiting to hear from a top target at a position of need.

Four-star linebacker Grant Beerman tells WV Sports Now he is planning to reveal his commitment sometime between July 4-6.

Beerman, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound linebacker out of Lakota West High School in West Chester, Ohio, wrapped up his most recent experience in West Virginia last weekend. Beerman’s official visit was likely WVU’s last chance to impress a recruit they initially offered in early December, soon after he attended the final home game of the 2023 season.

“Had an amazing time at WVU for a great official visit! Thank you to all of the coaches, staff and players for a great weekend!,” said Beerman.

He elaborated and offered a bold belief about the Mountaineers for the 2024 season. “Loved my OV to West Virginia, filled with a bunch of good activities and time to talk ball and connect with the Coaches. I like the winning culture that WVU has, I believe they have a great shot of winning the B12 and getting a spot in the playoffs. I also really like the connection I have with Coach Koonz and Coach Lesley. I think Coach Brown has done a great job with the program and is building a power house in the B12.”

Did WVU Football Staff Impress Grant Beerman Enough to Land the 4-Star LB?

Despite being mostly classified as a three-star, Beerman has been awarded four stars by Rivals.

WV Sports Now also talked with the Beerman about his recruitment back in January.

“It was great. This was my first visit to campus outside of a game day visit so it was good to see the facilities and get a walk through of what the program has to offer,” said Beerman after experiencing a WVU game-day atmosphere.

A recruiting visit is always about more than just checking out the facilities, it’s also about getting to know the coaches. Beerman detailed his talks with several coaches and how his relationship with the Mountaineer staff has grown.

“I was able to spend a lot of time with the coaches, including a great conversation with Coach (Neal) Brown and some really good football talk with Coach (Jordan) Lesley and Coach (Jeff) Koonz. I was impressed with the staff and all that they have going on for the players,” explained Beerman.

He even appreciated their honest approach. Beerman said the coaches went into what they liked about his game and why they felt he’s a perfect fit for the WVU defense.

“They like my versatility and my ability to quickly read the plays and react. My length at 6-foot-4 is a plus, but they highlighted my ability to bend and get low, which will allow me to really use my length at the ILB position,” Beerman said. He then continued. “They believe I fit in well with the defense, which allows the line backers to make decisions and play fast to make plays.”

In addition to WVU, Beerman completed an official visit with Michigan State and has offers from an abundance of major programs. His top offers include Cincinnati, Duke, Kentucky, Indiana, Minnesota, Pitt, Purdue, Virginia and Wake Forest among many others.

Beerman recorded 79 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, four sacks, a pair of forced fumbles and pass deflections.
