Tshiebwe, Culver, McBride Receive Big 12 Honors

Following the conclusion of the Big 12 season Saturday, three Mountaineers have received honors from the league.

Freshman big man Oscar Tshiebwe was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team, All-Newcomer Team and All-Freshman Team.

Guard Miles McBride joined Tshiebwe on the All-Freshman Team and sophomore forward Derek Culver was named an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention.

Tshiebwe led the Mountaineers in scoring (11.2) and rebounding (9.3). Tshiebwe also led the Big 12 in offensive rebounds (128). He had 10 double-doubles throughout the year.

McBride averaged 9.5 points this season, scoring 21 points against then-No. 2 Ohio State and a career-high 22 points against then-No. 22 Texas Tech.

Culver finished fourth in the Big 12 in rebounding (267) and third in defensive rebounds (183). He averaged 10.4 points and 8.6 rebounds this season and had six double-doubles.

Kansas’s Udoka Azubuike was named the Big 12 Player of the Year and Baylor coach Scott Drew was named the Coach of the Year.

The All-Big 12 First Team consists of Azubuike, fellow Jayhawk Devon Dotson, Baylor’s Jared Butler, TCU’s Desmond Bane and Oklahoma’s Kristian Doolittle.
