Former West Virginia star quarterback Geno Smith hadn’t thrown a touchdown pass in nearly four years coming into Thursday night, but when forced into action against the Los Angeles Rams, he didn’t miss a beat.

With Seattle Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson forced out of the game with a finger injury, Smith entered the contest and led the Seahawks on a 98-yard scoring drive. Smith went 5-for-5 with 72 yards on the drive, capping it with a beautiful touchdown toss to Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf from 23 yards out.

Smith led two scoring drives at the helm of the Seahawks’ offense, going 10-of-17 for 131 yards with a touchdown and interception. He added 23 yards on the ground on three additional carries. With 10 points on two drives, Smith actually outscored Wilson while leading the Seahawks’ offense.

With a chance to lead the Seahawks to a win with a late game-winning drive, Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett tripped on the first play of the drive and Rams defensive back Nick Scott picked off a relatively easy ball to end Smith’s magical night on a particularly unlucky play.

Despite Smith’s best efforts, the Rams escaped with a 26-17 win on Thursday Night Football, and the Seahawks fell to 2-3 on the young season.
