Where is WVU Football Headed in Latest Bowl Projections?

While some WVU football fans may be fixated on the struggles of the second half, West Virginia’s Week 1 win was enough to warrant inclusion in the latest bowl projections from a major outlet.

CBS Sports has the Mountaineers making the Liberty Bowl, a familiar bowl for WVU, against Missouri. Ironically, this bowl game would allow West Virginia to be part of postseason play in January despite not being involved in the College Football Playoff.

The Liberty Bowl is scheduled to kickoff on Jan. 2 at 7:30 pm ET from Memphis, Tenn.

But as much this projection is nice to see, Rich Rodriguez has bigger goals than just making a middle tier bowl game, granted it would signal a positive step after enduring a 4-8 first year in 2025.

However, the current focus for WVU is about what’s up next. And up next is another home game on Saturday afternoon. The 1-0 Mountaineers will welcome UT Martin to Morgantown, with kickoff from Milan Puskar Stadium set for 1:00 pm ET.

And then following the assumed Week 2 victory, West Virginia will travel to Charlotte, N.C. for a neutral site showdown with Virginia.
