WVU Baseball Great Alek Manoah to Start Game 1 of AL Wild Card Round

It’s not surprising news, but it is official. West Virginia product will start game 1 of a MLB playoff game.

The Toronto Blue Jays have named Alek Manoah their starting pitcher for game 1 of their Wild Card Round series against the Mariners.

Manoah taking the mound to open a playoff series is only fitting after he completed a regular season full of of magical moments and career milestones.

Toronto’s All-Star ace posted a 16-7 record, a 2.24 ERA, 180 strikeouts and a WHIP of 0.99. He also surpassed 300 career K’s and broke a record previously held by Roger Clemens for the lowest ERA ever posted in a single month in franchise history.

Alek Manoah Named AL Pitcher of the Month After Historic September

Game 1 is scheduled to get underway at 4 pm on Friday afternoon. WVU fans interested in watching Manoah can tune in nationally on ESPN. The Blue Jays and Seattle will play a best of 3 series for the right to advance to the AL Division Series. The first team to win 2 games will move on.
