An investigation has opened in response to a shooting which resulted in the death of WVU football commit Chris Wilson Jr. in Muncie, Indiana.

Wilson was found dead in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wilson committed to WVU in June following an official visit. Wilson, a product of Yorktown High School in Indiana, picked West Virginia over offers from Auburn, Cincinnati and Purdue.

In 2025, Wilson had 25 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, four sacks and 11 quarterback hurries as a junior. He also forced a fumble, had an interception and deflected four passes.

Yorktown High School principal Stacey Brewer sent a message to parents and students Monday morning.
