Four West Virginia University players have been named to the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America Watch List.

The list, announced Tuesday by the FWAA, includes WVU’s Jared Bartlett, Brandon Yates as well as true freshmen Zach Frazier and Akheem Mesidor.

Bartlett is the most experienced of the four, having played in four games last season while maintaining his redshirt status and all four games this season. So far in 2020, Barlett has recorded nine tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Yate did not see game action in 2019, but has played in all four games this season at left tackle, starting three of them.

Frazier, the top in-state West Virginia recruit in last year’s class, has made an immediate impact on WVU’s offensive line. The former Fairmont Senior Polar Bear who also won multiple West Virginia high school wrestling state championships has played in all four games this season, splitting time between center and left guard, while making three starts.

Mesidor has stepped right in and taken on a large role on the West Virginia defensive line. Seeing a lot of snaps at defensive end, Mesidor has 15 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and four sacks this season. He was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week following a six-tackle, two-sack performance against Kansas Saturday.
