WVU Safety Sean Mahone Named William V. Campbell Trophy Semifinalist

West Virginia senior safety Sean Mahone has been named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy.

The trophy is awarded to the nation’s best football scholar-athlete, determined from academic success, football performance and leadership.

Mahone is in his second year as WVU’s starting cat safety and has played in 32 career games. He led the Mountaineers with 80 tackles a season ago while also intercepting one pass and forcing one fumble.

He is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree in 2017, 2018 and 2019. He graduated from the university in May with a degree in management information systems and is pursuing his master’s of business administration.

12-14 finalists for the trophy will be announced in November, each receiving an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship.
