Ford-Wheaton alluded to receiving an invitation to the prestigious East-West Shrine Bowl by quoting a tweet from the game’s official account. The East-West Shrine Bowl is an annual postseason All-Star game that serves as a showcase for the top senior college players. Ford-Wheaton would be a senior if not for his redshirt season so can be invited to take part in the game. The 2020 season marred by the COVID-19 pandemic also allows the senior rule to be loosened.
So far this season, Ford-Wheaton has 48 receptions for 567 yards and five touchdowns. His production has calmed down a bit after catching two touchdowns in each WVU’s first two games, but clearly not enough to rob him of invites to events like the East-West Shrine Bowl.
