WVU Football WR Coach Bilal Marshall

At just 29, Bilal Marshall is one of the rising young coaches in college football. To fully appreciate Marshall how he’s perceived around the country, 247 Sports included the WVU wide receivers coach on its list of the best 30 assistant coaches under 30-years-old.

Marshall, who cut his coaching teeth at West Virginia as a graduate assistant from 2020-21, returned to Morgantown this offseason when he was hired to be the program’s new wide receivers coach. He spent last season at VMI.

Being the leader of an important position group in a major conference is a big time role for someone so young, but WVU head coach Neal Brown made it clear at the time of the hire that he knew he had to get Marshall back on his staff when the opportunity presented itself.

Brown made sure to publicly recognize Marshall making this list while speaking to the media to open up the fall camp session on Wednesday. “I thought it was a really good feather in his cap,” said Brown.

Marshall’s Florida roots and status as a former player has already paid dividends for West Virginia recruiting wise. His coaching style of blending an ability to connect with the players but offer tough love when necessary is already evident as well.
