After taking a virtual visit last week, 2022 safety Ashton Whitner will see West Virginia University in person this summer as he has scheduled an official visit for June.

After going on a virtual visit with WVU coaches last week, Whitner toldΒ West Virginia Sports Now what he liked and that he definitely wanted to take an in-person visit as well.

β€œThe facilities, they introduced the song to me, they showed me the dorms and the football field,” Whitner said. β€œWhat I liked the most was the West Virginia locker rooms and how they have the study halls built into the stadium for them. As soon as I got off the virtual visit, I knew automatically that I wanted to come visit the school in person.”

Whitner is rated as a three-star safety from Greenville, South Carolina. He said WVU’s coaches like his athletic traits and view him as a good special teams player.

β€œCoach told me how they really like how I play and that I’m a ballhawk, I’m a really good tackler and I fill the alley good. He said that I’d be a really big part of the defense if I went there and the film shows that I could also be a really good special teams player for them.”

Whitner said he also wanted to visit Indiana but had not scheduled a date yet. He also has offers from Syracuse,Β Maryland, Marshall, Liberty, Akron, Coastal Carolina, Miami (Ohio), Old Dominion and a number of Ivy League programs.
