West Virginia adds another commitment days before Early Signing Day.

Running back DJ Oliver, a three-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, announced on Twitter that he has decided to commit to the Mountaineers. This news doesn’t come as a surprise to WVSN.

We talked with Oliver recently about his visit with the WVU coaches and he let us know West Virginia was his top choice.

2023 3-Star RB DJ Oliver: ‘WVU is My Top School’

“I think I can come in and compete and help WVU win some championships.” Those are big words to say about a program coming off a 5-7 season, but that’s exactly what 3-star running back recruit DJ Oliver said to WVSN.

Oliver made it known he wants to get to work while speaking with us about his upcoming visit to Morgantown. The Port Saint Joe, Florida native announced his trip to check out WVU has been scheduled in a tweet on Monday. This came a week after receiving an offer from the Mountaineers.

“know a pretty good bit. I’ve been watching them for a while now. I think my favorite game is when they play Virginia Tech and my talks with the coaches have been great. We are pretty locked in and let’s see what happens next,” Oliver said when asked about why he is now so onward with WVU. He was previously committed to South Florida until officially de-committing just several days ago.

On why he decided USF, where he had been committed to since May, was not best place for him anymore, Oliver answered as expected – “Some of the coaching staff had gotten let go, which were the ones I had great bonds with.” He then added on his own. “I’m looking forward to bigger opportunities and I think WVU will give me that.”

As a follow up, Oliver was then asked point-blank if WVU is his top choice right now. “Yes, West Virginia is my top school,” the 230 pound running back answered.

The question about if the Mountaineers already having a solid running back room and coming off a successful season on the ground caused him any reason for pause, Oliver expressed his desire to compete and feeling that he fits into what West Virginia looking to do.

In addition to the current roster, running back Jahiem White out of York, Pennsylvania is viewed as the Mountaineers’ top running back commit.
