West Virginia was all business as they beat down the Central Florida Golden Knights in the Semi-Final of the Advocare Invitational Friday night.
Central Florida took an early 6-2 lead and the Mountaineers starting 1-6 from the floor. The poor shooting looked like it was going to continue, but it didn’t.
West Virginia would respond with a 24-1 run in a little under 6 minutes of play, to take a 26-7 lead, with 9:04 left in the first half. They did it with their tough defense, getting 15 points off 11 turnovers.
Beetle Bolden led they charge with 9 points, going 3-5 from three-point range and Sagaba Konate added 7 points in that span. Jevon Carter would get into rhythm on offense, adding 11 points.
The Mountaineer defense was stifling in the first twenty minutes, creating 17 turnovers and holding Central Florida to just 19% from the field.
The second half started off a lot like the first half. The Golden Knights came out the break with a 6-2 run and the Mountaineers were struggling to find some offense, but the offense would get going again, shooting 51.6% from the field and 40% from behind the arc.
Daxter Miles Jr. would get 10 of his 14 points in the second half.
This was a completely dominate performance by the Mountaineers and they did it throughout the game.
Sagaba Konate has been consistent through the last 5 games and the performance today against a bigger UCF team shows that he is starting to come into his own. The mid-range jumper looks good, he’s playing great defense and most importantly, he is staying out of foul trouble.
Beetle Bolden is doing everything he can on the floor to help his team win. He is not only filling up the stat sheet, but it’s the hustle plays that don’t make the stat line. His ability to slide in and take a charge this weekend has been phenomenal. He is leaving it all on the floor, this time of play is contagious and you are seeing other players following his lead,
This team continues to come together and is doing on the little things needed to win games.
The Mountaineers face Missouri on Sunday at 9:30 est on ESPN2.
