On of 15 coaches on the watch list, Huggins has led the Mountaineers to a 14-6 record (7-4 in the Big 12) so far this season and a No. 13 ranking in the AP Top 25 Poll. Huggins, who has also been nominated for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame for the fourth year in a row, is fifth place all-time among college coaches with 895 career wins, seven away from tying Bob Knight.
Since taking over the WVU men’s program in 2007, Huggins has guided the Mountaineers to 305 wins, nine NCAA tournaments, five Sweet 16s and the 2010 Final Four. Huggins has won several coach of the year awards, including the 2014-15 Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year, and the Conference USA Coach of the Year in 1998, 1999 and 2000.
West Virginia women’s basketball coach Mike Carey was named to the Naismith Women’s Coach of the Year Award earlier this week.
