Al Pogue set to join WVU coaching staff

First reported by FootballScoop.com, West Virginia is expected to hire Troy cornerbacks coach/recruiting coordinator Al Pogue.

Pogue has a long history with coaching in the state of Alabama, which might be his recruiting hotbed. He served as an offensive quality control assistant for Auburn in 2011-12. Prior to that, he was a high school coach for 12 years in Montgomery, Alabama and led Carver High school to their first ever undefeated regular season in 2008.

He immediately saw success at Troy helping their pass defense improve by over 105 yards per game and finished with 11 interceptions in 2014.

Prior to his arrival at Troy, the secondary ranked 123rd nationally and has since been a top 30 unit consistently. In 2016, Troy finished 16th in passing yards allowed per game.

Look for Pogue to open a pipeline in the state of Alabama, similar to the way former corners coach Doug Belk did with Georgia.
