Attorney Bob Huggins

Wheeling attorney Bob Fitzsimmons is no longer representing Bob Huggins in any matter in his case against West Virginia University. Fitzsimmons sent a letter on Tuesday to WVU Vice President and General Counsel Stephanie Taylor.

“Please be advised that myself and my law firm no longer represent Bob Huggins in connection with any matter related to West Virginia University. Therefore, it is no longer necessary for you to provide me the documents/information I requested in my July 7, 2023 email. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.”

Fitzsimmons has represented Huggins from the beginning of the claims that the Basketball Hall of Fame coach never resigned at West Virginia last month.

Huggins’ attorneys and WVU have exchanged many conversations since the weekend. Huggins himself wrote a statement to the media on Monday doubling down on his claims. Taylor, who’s representing the University, responded rather quick with some counterpoints:

  • Huggins’ lawyer was involved with resignation talks the day of
  • University accommodated with Huggins to send the message from his wife’s account because Huggins doesn’t know how to use email
  • Huggins talked to Steve Uryasz over the phone, suggesting interims
  • Huggins cleaned out his office the next day and spoke with Director of Athletics Wren Baker
