Backyard Brawl Win Propels WVU Basketball in KenPom Rankings

WVU Basketball jumped from No. 74 to No. 64 in the KenPom rankings after Thursday’s 71-49 Backyard Brawl win.

The Mountaineers started the year at No. 67, almost dropped into the 80s and has now surpassed its initial placement.

The Mountaineers rank 11th out of all Big 12 teams, trailing No. 1 Houston, No. 8 Iowa State, No. 11 Arizona, No. 14 Texas Tech, No. 18 BYU, No. 20 Baylor, No. 25 Kansas, No. 40 Cincinnati, No. 52 Oklahoma State and No. 56 Kansas State.

WVU started last season at No. 87 in the KenPom rankings and ended at No. 51.

The Mountaineers are 4-0 with a 70-54 win over Mount Saint Maryโ€™s, a 73-65 win over Campbell,ย a 69-47 victory over Lehigh, and the Backyard Brawl victory.

This season marks the first year of Ross Hodge at the helm of WVU with the program seeing its fourth head coach in as many years.
