Senior linebacker Ben Cutter returned to the Mountaineers for his fourth and final year this offseason, sticking with West Virginia through thick and thin. Thrust into the starting lineup as a freshman because of injuries to the linebacking corps in 2023, Cutter saw the height of the Neal Brown era, then stayed on through a coaching change and early growing pains under Rich Rodriguez.

The 6-foot tall, 226-pound linebacker gave the Mountaineers steady play on both defense and special teams in 2025. Most importantly, he saved his biggest performance for one of the biggest games, setting a season high for snaps and tackles against Pitt in the Backyard Brawl.

A team-first player who will step up wherever he’s asked, expect plenty of Senior Day praise for during his final college season. Cutter closed his latest spring period saying he never thought about leaving West Virginia and prides himself on being loyal to WVU.

Last Year: Cutter played 12 games for the Mountaineers in 2025, starting one. 

Stats: 38 tackles (16 solo), one sack, 3.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions.

Post-Camp Outlook: Cutter has the most experience of any returning WVU Football linebacker. Expect him to provide a steadying presence among the transfers and rookies as the roster shakes out.

Projected Role: A proven quantity as a reserve and on special teams, Cutter can step into the lineup whenever and wherever West Virginia needs him to.

Accolades, Highlights: A three-star recruit in high school, Cutter led his team to a state championship and won defensive MVP honors.
