Following the conclusion of the MLB Draft, another WVU baseball product found a professional opportunity.

Pitcher Reese Bassinger signed as an undrafted free agent with the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday.

Bassinger is the fifth Mountaineer to be drafted by or sign as a free agent with an MLB team this week, joining Dawson Montesa (No. 72, Cardinals), Maxx Yehl (No. 91, Royals), Paul Schoenfeld (No. 236, Diamondbacks), and Ian Korn (No. 298, Giants).

The Wylie, Texas native played two seasons for WVU and had a 3.77 ERA in 61 appearances on the mound. He went 11-4 with seven saves while striking out 107 batters in 121.2 innings pitched and was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention both years as a Mountaineer.

Bassinger is the second former Mountaineer in the Blue Jays organization along with his former WVU teammate Sam White, who signed an undrafted free agent deal in 2025.
