Even though opinions might be split on the expectations for this West Virginia team overall this upcoming season, there are clear high expectations of big things from a select group of Mountaineers.

The Big 12 has announced its 2022 Preseason All-Big 12 team with four WVU players making the cut. Defensive lineman Dante Stills, cornerback Charles Woods, offensive lineman Zach Frazier and kicker Casey Legg received the honor this year.

Stills, who decided to return to school to enhance his NFL potential, continues to be the star of the WVU defense. He earned a spot on the All-Big 12 first-team defense following last season. He started all 12 games, finishing with 32 tackles, including 25 solo stops, a team-leading six sacks and 13 tackles for loss. He also had six quarterback hurries, forced a fumble and had an interception.

Frazier is looking to turn up another gear after earning All-Big 12 second-team honors. He started all 12 games at center in 2021, which came after starting at guard in nine of 10 games as a true freshman last year.

Woods is entering the season with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Despite a solid season with 31 tackles and 4 total turnovers, the Illinois State transfer did not make any All-Big 12 teams last season.

Finally, Legg brings much more to the table than just his very fitting name. He converted 19 out of 23 field goal attempts in 2021, drilling a 49-yarder as his longest. He also finished at 100% for extra points.

It remains to be seen how Neal Brown’s team plays on the field with some key new faces, but he does have four Mountaineers he should be able to rely on no matter what.
