Former WVU F Josiah Harris became the third ex-Mountaineer to commit to Akron in the last few days, according to multiple reports. Harris joins Seth Wilson and James Okonkwo for the Zips next season with this WVU-Akron pipeline.

Harris, a 6-foot-7 sophomore from Canton, Ohio, joined West Virginia’s program out of high school in 2022. Harris saw limited time his freshman year but saw an increased role his second year under Josh Eilert. Harris averaged 5.0 points and 4.1 rebounds in 32 games this past season. Harris shot 51% from the field and 41% from three during Big 12 play.

Harris graduated as a sophomore this past December and is a graduate transfer.

On Saturday, Wilson and Okonkwo both committed to the Zips, reuniting as teammates. Wilson played this past season at West Virginia while Okonkwo transferred to North Carolina following Bob Huggins’ departure last summer. The trio all played on the same team during the 2022-23 season. Wilson and Okonkwo joined WVU’s program back in 2021 and Harris joined the following year after.

Akron now will pair three former Mountaineer players with Morgantown HS guard Sharron Young, who committed to HC John Groce for the 2024 class. Former Huntington Prep and current Akron forward Mikal Dawson has his final year of eligibility as well.
