Maryland Receiver Commits to WVU

In recruiting, it’s best not to blink or you might miss something. On Sunday afternoon, the unexpected happened.

Wide receiver Randy Fields (Elkton, MD) took to Twitter to announce his commitment to the Mountaineers. Fields claims offers from Cincinnati and Pittsburgh but never publicly announced an offer from West Virginia until he committed. Fields holds a three-star rating and is being shown interest from Maryland, Temple, and Syracuse.

With Fields’ commitment, the Mountaineers now have six pass catchers in the 2018 class, but what does this Baltimore playmaker bring to West Virginia?

At 6-foot-3 and 185-lbs, Fields makes for a go-to-target who shows fluidity and preciseness in his route running, and despite his larger frame, possesses tremendous breakaway speed. As a junior, Fields hauled in 61 catches for 995 yards and 13 touchdowns. Expect the interest and offers for Fields to continue to roll in.

As unexpected as it may have been, and given Fields holds true to his commitment, he will be considered a steal for the 2018 class.
