Running back Tye Edwards began his college career in 2019 at the Georgia Military Academy, transferring to Division I in 2022 with UT-San Antonio.
Pending a successful lawsuit against the NCAA, Edwards will have one season of eligibility remaining thanks to a rule aimed at giving former JUCO athletes a shot at the highest levels of the college sport. After breaking out with Northern Iowa last season, Edwards will play behind Jahiem White as a power back with WVU Football.
2 • Tye Edwards, redshirt senior running back
Last year: Edwards broke out in his third season at the Division I level, racking up more than 1,100 yards.
Stats: Edwards compiled 1,047 rushing yards on 157 carries in 2024, good for an average of 6.4 yards per tote. He added seven total touchdowns (one of them receiving) and caught 13 passes for 77 yards.
Camp outlook: As a redshirt senior with just one year of eligibility remaining, Edwards should pick up playing time in 2025. However, he sits behind the Mountaineers’ best player on the running back depth chart.
Projected role: With Jahiem White the presumptive starter at running back, Edwards could see carries on short yardage downs. He’s built for that sort of role at 6-foot-2 and 228 pounds.
Accolades, highlights: Edwards earned an honorable mention to the All-Missouri Valley Football Conference award list after his breakout year.
