Randy Mazey Awarded Coach of the Year Honor for Final Season

Even in retirement, Randy Mazey is still being recognized for his work during his final season.

Mazey has been named the 2024 ABCA East Region Coach of the Year. This becomes the third such honor for Mazey in his career. He also earned the award in 2017 and 2019.

The only Mountaineer head coach to be a multi-time recipient is Dale Ramsburg. Greg Van Zant also won in 1996.

In his final season, Mazey led West Virginia to new heights as the Mountaineers reached an NCAA Super Regional for the first time in program history. Overall, WVU finished the season 36-24 which included going 3-0 in the NCAA Tucson Regional.

For the eighth consecutive year, the Mountaineers were in ranked in the Top 25, climbing into the top 15 in multiple polls to end the season.

In 12 seasons with West Virginia, Randy Mazey went 372-274 and was a two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year in addition to his regional honors. Overall, in 18 seasons as a head coach, Mazey went 558-434-2.
