Recapping the Transfer Portal Commits for WVU Football So Far
It’s always important to remember the transfer portal works both ways. While some players may leave, others will then join the WVU football program.
Since West Virginia has already started gaining commitments from incoming Mountaineers, here’s a recap of the portal additions so far.
Tight end Jacob Barrick will join Rich Rodriguez at WVU.
Barrick, a Martinsburg, W.Va. native will jump to the Power Four level in the Big 12 for his final year of eligibility.
In an effort to retool the WVU football roster, Rich Rodriguez brings one of his Jacksonville State players home. Wide receiver Jarod Bowie announced his commitment to West Virginia on Monday.
Bowie, a Martinsburg, W.Va. native, comes to WVU after spending two years at Jacksonville State and was part of the Gamecock’s Conference USA championship team. He made 13 receptions for 209 yards in 14 games in 2024.
On Monday, Walter Young Bear announced his commitment to become a Mountaineer on social media. Bear comes to West Virginia after spending four years, including one as a redshirt, at Tulsa.
Listed at 6-foot-3 and 312 pounds, Bear hails from Norman, Okla.
Bear’s commitment comes after he received a recent offer from WVU rival Pitt. In addition to West Virginia and Pitt, Bear had offers from Cal, Stanford, UCF, Virginia and WKU.
Eastern Michigan transfer wide receiver Oran Singleton Jr. announced his commitment to West Virginia on Sunday night.
Singleton caught a team-high 64 passes for 639 yards and two touchdowns during the 2024 season.
Transfer cornerback Jordan Scruggs committed to WVU after his official visit over the weekend.
Scruggs, who entered the transfer portal on the first day it open on Dec. 1, recorded had 69 tackles, four tackles for a loss, a pair of pass breakups and an interception in 11 games during the 2024 season. He transferred to South Alabama after spending the 2023 season at Central Missouri, where he registered 37 total tackles.
