Jose Perez, who spent the last year with West Virginia, is officially re-entering the transfer portal, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. Perez will visit Ole Miss beginning on Friday. Perez was evaluating his options over the past week and a half, he told WV Sports Now earlier in the week.

Perez is seeking a final year of eligibility as a graduate transfer, which would make him immediately eligible. Perez and WVU interim HC Josh Eilert parted ways with each other on Sept. 30. due to academic reasons. Perez did not attend study hall, which the rule was placed by Eilert and his staff. Perez tells WVSN that he is academically eligible and plans to play in the fall with whoever his new team is.

Perez re-opened his recruitment in July after Bob Huggins resigned. Perez committed back to Eilert’s staff but will not play a game for West Virginia. Eilert has moved on from the Perez situation as of last week.

Perez (6-foot-5) transferred to West Virginia in late October after Manhattan head coach Steve Masiello was let go two weeks before the season started. Perez committed to WVU within days of entering the portal in hopes of playing this past season. The Bronx, NY native sat out the entirety of the 2022-23 season after being denied a waiver by the NCAA. Perez last played in the 2021-22 season with Manhattan, averaging 18.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists. Perez shot 40 percent from the field. Perez was named the Preseason MAAC Player of the Year.
