Rich Rodriguez Offers High Praise for Scotty Fox After Houston Win
Impressed by his young quarterback, Rich Rodriguez praised Scotty Fox for his play during West Virginia’s 45-35 win over Houston.
Showing growth and progression from his previous games, Fox completed 59% of his passes for 154 yards against a formidable Cougars defense. And even more indicative of success in Rodriguez’s offense, the true freshman ran for 65 yards and scored two touchdowns with his legs.
“Our freshman quarterback is growing up. Heโs really poised, seeing things out there, proud of the way he played,” Rodriguez stated during his postgame press conference.
Rodriguez already knew Fox had the ability run, and that’s why he was even more impressed by what his new starter showed with his arm. The 24-yard touchdown pass Fox put on a rope to Cam Vaughn exemplified his arm strength more than any other moment from the game.
โHe took care of the ball, didnโt throw it into harmโs way, and was seeing the field. Our quarterbacks make so many decisions in our offense in the run game, the pass game, youโre not going to be 100% but for a young guy, he was pretty solid. He ran the ball well. Heโs got next-level arm talent, and you can see that. Thereโs not a throw he canโt make, and he made some phenomenal ones today,” explained Rodriguez.
It’s safe to say Fox has earned the right to continue starting and developing in the final weeks of the season.
