No matter what anybody thinks about this year’s WVU football team, almost no one is giving them any chance to start the season with a win against Penn State.

But if West Virginia fans are looking for even the slightest optimism, look no further than ESPN’s Football Power Index? Not exactly. The only sliver of hope from ESPN FPI is that they do have the Mountaineers with a chance above 0%.

According to the ESPN FBI, WVU only has a 11.3% chance to upset a Nittany Lions team many are calling the most talented ever under James Franklin.

So you’re saying there’s a chance, ESPN? Eh, I guess so.

Being down on West Virginia’s prospects in 2023 is nothing new for the ESPN FBI. Just a few months, WVU was offered the lowest percentage to win the Big 12.
