Mountaineers in the Pros

Steelers Invite Morgantown HS Product Maverick Wolfley to Rookie Minicamp

Maverick Wolfley

The Steelers will invite Maverick Wolfley to their rookie minicamp later this week, according to the University of West Florida, his alma mater.

If that last name rings a bell, it’s because Wolfley is the nephew of former Steelers offensive lineman and now radio analyst Craig Wolfley. In addition, he is the grandson of Ray Mansfield, so there are a lot of Steelers ties for Wolfley right out of the gate.

The Morgantown, West Virginia, native committed to West Virginia out of high school, but transferred shortly after arriving in Morgantown. A fullback, he landed at Akron but transferred from there to West Florida for the past season. As their fullback, he caught one pass for 23 yards in 2022.

Wolfley, coming out of Morgantown High School, is the son of former West Virginia Mountaineer Dale Wolfley and the brother of former Mountaineer Stone Wolfley. There are plenty of football bloodlines here, and he worked out at West Virginia pro day as a local addition.

Wolfley ran a 4.94 40-yard dash there and measured at 252 pounds at 6-foot-2. He joins the recent barrage of rookie minicamp invites for the Steelers up to this point as they fill out their roster for this weekend. The team still has three open spots on their 90-man roster to work with coming out of the rookie minicamp.

The team’s rookie minicamp will run Friday and Saturday at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the South Side. After, the team will move towards OTAs and mandatory minicamp before heading to Latrobe in July for training camp as they ramp up towards the 2023 NFL season.
