West Virginia Basketball announced the signing of Illinois-Chicago transfer wing Toby Okani on Friday night.

“Toby is poised to have a great senior year,” WVU HC Darian DeVries said. “He’s a very versatile defender. He rebounds the ball at a high rate and has the ability to finish above the rim and will really excel in our transition offense. I just love the flexibility he will give us at both ends of the floor!”

Okani, 6-foot-8, visited WVU from April 12-14. Okani also visited St. Bonaventure, LSU and Virginia during his recruitment.

Okani averaged 11.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.0 blocks through 33 games. Okani shot 39% from the field, 32% from three and 57% from the free throw line. Okani’s best performance of his senior year included a 31-point performance against Drake and new WVU HC Darian DeVries.

The Orange, Nj. native has one year of eligibility remaining. Okani began his career at Duquesne for his first two seasons.

Okani becomes the fourth transfer commitment, joining Tucker DeVries (F – Drake), Sencire Harris (G – Illinois) and Amani Hansberry (F – Illinois). WVU also has a high school commitment from former Drake signee KJ Tenner.

West Virginia has lost eight players in total to the transfer portal this offseason, most recently Noah Farrakhan. The entry deadline for the transfer portal is May 1.
