Kentucky guard CJ Fredrick was contacted by West Virginia’s staff in the transfer portal on Friday morning, a source tells WV Sports Now.

Fredrick (6-foot-3) entered the portal early Friday morning, leaving Kentucky after two seasons. Fredrick has dealt with injuries throughout his stint in Lexington but played 27 games this past season. Fredrick averaged 6.1 points on 35 percent shooting from the field. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native shot 91 percent from the free-throw line.

Fredrick began his career at Iowa, scoring 10.2 points per game his freshman year. The two-time transfer shot 47 percent from three during his two years at Iowa.

Fredrick has a Mountaineer connection with current guard Joe Toussaint. Fredrick and Toussaint played together at Iowa from 2019-21. Fredrick has one year of eligibility remaining.

WVU recently contacted Raequan Battle (G – Montana State) and Olivier Nkamhoua (F – Tennessee) in the portal on Thursday. Top targets Caleb Grill and John Hugley both went their separate ways, committing to other programs this week. Grill chose Missouri, while Hugley picked Oklahoma after both parties mutually agreed to cancel his visit to WVU this weekend.
