WVU Football Commits and Recruits Are on Campus This Weekend For Official Visits

Throughout this weekend, West Virginia football will be hosting five committed players and four recruits for visits.

Currently, the 2023 class for West Virginia ranks 17th in the country and third in the Big 12.

JUSTIN BENTON, DL

Benton currently plays football at Newton High School in Covington, Georgia. He is a class of 2023 recruit and the No. 13 rated defensive lineman for that class by Rivals. He’s rated No. 50 overall for the same position class by 247Sports.

CAMERON CALHOUN, CB

Calhoun committed to West Virginia on March 30. Calhoun received offers from Boston College, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Pitt, Vanderbilt and others before committing to West Virginia. WVU defensive coaches Jordan Lesley and ShaDon Brown led the recruitment in Calhoun. The Cincinnati native is ranked No. 15 in the state of Ohio and has been rated a 3-star prospect by 247 Sports

RODNEY GALLAGHER, WR

Gallagher committed to WVU on May 25, becoming the sixth-highest recruit in program history. Gallagher finished off his junior year with 1,365 passing yards, 1,130 rushing yards and 31 total touchdowns for Laurel Highlands HS.

LAYTH GHANNAM, OL

Ghannam is a Charleston, West Virginia, native that plays at George Washington HS. Ghannam has offers from Appalachian State, Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Marshall, North Carolina Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia and others.

JAMES HEARD, DE

Heard is a 3-star prospect from Philadelphia. Heard has received offers from Cincinnati, Duke, Kentucky, Maryland, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Virginia, West Virginia and others.

RAHEIM JETER, QB

Jeter committed to WVU on Dec. 20. The 3-star from South Carolina 2,694 yards on 202 completions for 19 touchdowns through a trio of seasons (16 games) with the Vikings, according to MaxPreps. His sophomore season, he also registered six rushing touchdowns, all short-yardage jaunts.

JAYDEN SHEPARD, DB

Shepard is a defensive back from Florida who holds offers from Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Tulane, West Virginia and others.

JOSIAH TROTTER, LB

Trotter comes from St. Joseph’s Prep School in Philadelphia. Trotter was offered by Cincinnati, Clemson, Marshall, Maryland, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, South Carolina, Syracuse, Temple, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech and others. Trotter’s recruitment was led by running backs coach Chad Scott and inside linebackers coach Jeff Koonz.

JAHIEM WHITE, RB

White is from William Penn Senior High School in York, Pennsylvania. WVU running backs coach Chad Scott was his lead recruiter. White finished this past season rushing for 2,128 yards and 31 touchdowns.
