WVU Football QB recruit Derrick Baker

After seeing Derrick Baker in person at camp, the WVU football staff decided to join the party and offer the talented 2027 quarterback.

“Had an amazing time at camp today at WVU and blessed to have an offer from Coach Tyler Allen. Thank you QB coach (Isaiah) Macklin. Honor to meet Neal Brown,” said Baker on X (Twitter) to announce his latest offer after taking part in WVU’s football camp for recruits.

Baker can now add West Virginia to his growing list of offers that also includes Indiana, Maryland, Miami (FL), Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Pitt, UCF, USF and Wake Forest.

Listed at 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds, Baker is a product of the famous St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

“I consider myself as a dual-threat quarterback with a mechanics like a pocket passer,” Baker said. “My biggest strength is my ability to escape pressure and still make throws down the field.”

Baker has great quarterback mechanics for someone who just finished their freshman season. He has the ability to stay in the pocket and hit his wide receivers with precise throws, generating incredible power from just twisting and extending his arm while standing.

He is also tough to plan for, as he excels in open space. If the pocket collapses, or if the defense sends a blitz, Baker has the quickness to evade them and the speed to run past them for large gains and touchdowns.
