WVU Football Set to Host Transfer DB Ready for Jump to P4
Needing to repair their secondary, the WVU football staff will welcome a former Kent State defensive back to Morgantown later this week.
As first reported by 247 Sports, transfer defensive back Joel Cordoba is set to take an official visit with West Virginia on Jan. 7.
Initially viewed as a safety out of high school, Cordoba recorded 68 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry as a true freshman in 2025. And to support his potential to find similar success in the Big 12, he made seven tackles against eventual Big 12 champion Texas Tech.
Rated as a three-star recruit out of Plainfield High School in Plainfield, N.J., Cordoba (6-foot-2 and 190 pounds) will have three years remaining of eligibility, making him an attractive option for beyond just the 2026 season.
