Checking in Where WVU Basketball Stands Before Opening Big 12 Tournament
Likely needing to go on a long run in the Big 12 Tournament to make the NCAA field, WVU basketball will face BYU tonight.
For an update on where the Mountaineers stand heading into the game, they are No. 56 in KenPom with a net rating of +14.04 and are listed in the “next” group off the bubble on Joe Lunardi’s latest Bracketology.
The game will be televised on ESPN2 with tip-off from the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri set for 7 pm ET.
After wrapping up their season with a convincing win over UCF on Senior Day on Friday night, West Virginia had to wait for the conclusion of Saturdayโs games to learn the seed for the conference tournament. At 9-9 in Big 12 play, the Mountaineers are the seventh seed and earned a single-bye.
West Virginia earned the No. 7 spot due to being undefeated against the other four teams who also finished at 9-9.
WVU was on the bubble after the teamโs victory over No. 19 BYU, but fell off again immediately after losing to Kansas State on the road.
