Ross Hodge’s WVU basketball team will open up the Big 12 Tournament against BYU or Kansas State on Wednesday night.

The game will be televised on ESPN2 with tip-off from the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri set for 7 pm ET.

After wrapping up their season with a convincing win over UCF on Senior Day on Friday night, West Virginia had to wait for the conclusion of Saturday’s games to learn the seed for the conference tournament. At 9-9 in Big 12 play, the Mountaineers will be the seventh seedand earn a single-bye.

West Virginia earned the No. 7 spot due to being undefeated against the other four teams who also finished at 9-9.

Overall, Hodge’s team went 18-13 in his first regular season at the helm of the Mountaineers. And due to the up and down nature of the season – West Virginia is currently off Joe Lunardi’s bubble, they’re in need of a deep run through the Big 12 Tournament, if not win it, to have a shot at playing for a national title.

WVU was on the bubble after the team’s victory over then No. 19 BYU, the same team they will meet at the start of the conference tournament, but fell off again immediately after losing to Kansas State on the road.
