Big 12 Title Elevates WVU Women’s Basketball in AP Poll
Fresh off winning the Big 12 Tournament title, WVU women’s basketball gets rewarded with their highest ranking of the season.
The Mountaineers opened the week ranked at No. 12 in the Associated Press’ poll, moving up a few spots after being at No. 15 last week.
On Sunday, West Virginia defeated TCU 62-53 to capture the program’s second Big 12 championship and first under current head coach Mark Kellogg.
WVU suffered a regular season sweep at the hands of then No. 10 TCU, losing at the buzzer in Morgantown and blowing a halftime lead in Fort Worth.
The No. 15 Mountaineers got the last laugh in the Big 12 Championship Game, winning their second-ever Big 12 title โ and their first under head coach Mark Kellogg โ 62-53, behind 21 points from Jordan Harrison and a blowout third quarter.

WVU Womenโs Basketball punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament with an automatic bid and has a strong chance to play host during the opening weekend. Theyโll officially learn their seed at 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 15.
