A key piece of the toughness of the West Virginia defense from 2023 is now locked in for 2024. Safety Anthony Wilson has committed to WVU’s NIL collective.

Country Roads Trust announced a new deal with Wilson on Friday morning.  After four years at Georgia Southern, Anthony Wilson quickly became an impact player as a Mountaineer. Wilson transferred to WVU last off-season.

Wilson totaled 80 tackles with 54 recoded as solo, four pass deflections and an interception during the 2023 season. He told the WVU media he idolized former Mountaineer Karl Joseph upon arriving in Morgantown.

“I’ve done everything I had to do at GSU over the past 4 years and I learned a lot,” he said. “I’m just ready to come in and make an immediate impact. I’m more hungry than ever!,” Wilson said to WV Sports Now during his recruitment last year.

Despite losing consensus All-American Beanie Bishop, the WVU defensive staff now knows it at least still has its other two anchors in Aubrey Burks and Wilson.

Wilson will now also get to continue his role as one of the leaders on the defense.
