WVU Volleyball Loses Twice in Hawaii Tourney

The West Virginia women’s volleyball team was swept by No. 23 ranked UCLA three sets to none to open the Outrigger Volleyball Challenge in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Thursday night and then lost to Hawaii in their second game the next day.

In game one, the Mountaineers battled with the Bruins early before falling in set one, 25-18. UCLA then upended West Virginia 25-13 in set two before closing the victory in set three 25-14.

Senior outside hitter Adrian Ell topped the Mountaineers with 11 kills and 12.5 points. Freshman Bailey Miller recorded nine kills and nine points, while also leading West Virginia with six digs.

Redshirt freshman setter Kamiah Gibson compiled 21 assists while sophomore Madison Page and Gibson reach tallied two blocks each.

Then in game two, WVU fell in a back and forth matchup to Hawaii (2-3). West Virginia battled back in set two, and the third set was back-and-forth with freshman Bailey Miller registering five kills in set three.

Fifth-year senior outside hitter Adrian Ell led the way with 11 kills and 13 points. She was followed by Miller, who recorded nine kills and ten points.

The Mountaineers recorded 28 kills and 33 digs in the loss.
