WVU Football recruit Javier Etheridge

The WVU football program has been awarded the green light to keep pursuing Javier Etheridge. This is thanks to the three-star athlete placing the Mountaineers among his top 6 schools on Sunday.

Etheridge, who plays on both sides of the ball at wide receiver and cornerback, tweeted a graphic to show his new slightly reduced list of college programs he’s still considering. Prior to this top 6, West Virginia was one of nine other programs waiting to learn if they made the cut from 10 to six.

Etheridge (5-foot-10, 165 pounds) is a class of 2024 product who attends Mount Healthy High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He previously announced that will be making his final commitment decision on May 13.

In addition to the Mountaineers, Etheridge also kept alive the hopes of Indiana, Penn State, Pitt, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

In a talk with WVSN, Etheridge explained why he decided to keep WVU in the running. “It’s really close to home, Coach (Bilal) Marshall is a really great dude. A lot of guys, like “Pac-Man” Jones that actually live in Cincinnati where I’m from, gave me a lot of advice and background about West Virginia, so they made it to the top six,” Etheridge said.

While he wouldn’t give any further hints, he made it clear that whichever program he joins will get him fully invested and as early as possible. He said he plans to enroll in January at his school of choice. Etheridge also expressed his motivation to leave his mark and perform well at the college level.

“I’m not a selfish guy, I really wanna make it far for my teammates. To make sure that I leave a mark for my school,” said Etheridge. “I plan to enroll early in January.”

He then had a message to that any fan base will appreciate.

“They gonna get a great guy that’s willing to work at any time, and they’re gonna get a hard worker. Just a beast mentality. They gonna get somebody that works for it all and got their back like no other.”

He last visited Morgantown on March 25. Ranked as a top 60 player in the state of Ohio by multiple outlets, Etheridge earned number 58 by On3.com and number 49 in 247 Sports’ composite rankings.
