WVU junior wide receiver Winston Wright Jr. and redshirt-junior tight end Mike O’Laughlin have continued the trend of WVU players being named to award watch lists this offseason.

On July 23, O’Laughlin was named on the John Mackey Award watch list, the award given to the most outstanding tight end in college football. Today, Wright was named to the Paul Hornung Award watch list, the award given to the college football player determined to be the most versatile in the country. NFL draft picks Kyle Pitts and DeVonta Smith were named the winners of the John Mackey and Paul Hornung Awards, respectively, last season.

O’Laughlin was the leading tight end for the Mountaineers last season, catching 15 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown in nine games last season. Wright led WVU with 47 catches for 553 yards and two touchdowns while returning 20 kicks for 415 yards (21.5 yards per return) on the way to Second Team All-Big 12 honors.

Both awards will be handed out at the end of the season Home Depot College Football Awards ceremony in December.

Quarterback Jarret Doege was named to the Maxwell watch list, running back Leddie Brown was named to the Maxwell and Doak Walker watch lists and Dante Stills was named to the Bednarik, Outland and Bronko Nagurski watch lists.
