Another Upset Sends WVU Basketball Back Into Top 25
A week after dropping out, Saturday’s win over Iowa State has shot WVU basketball back into the AP Top 25 ranking.
The Mountaineers (13-4, 4-2 Big 12) come in at No. 23 this week. WVU debuted in the poll at No. 21 two weeks ago and fell out of the ranking last week.

Other Big 12 teams in the top 25 this week include No. 3 Iowa State, No. 7 Houston and No. 12 Kansas. Arizona, Cincinnati, Arizona and Baylor all received votes.
WVU never fell out of the USA Today Coaches Poll and moved from No. 25 up to No. 23 this week.
WVU picked up its third top-10 win of the season with its 64-57 win over then-No. 2 Iowa State on Saturday. WVU’s Javon Small cemented his status as Big 12 Player of the Year frontrunner on Saturday, leading WVU with 27 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.
West Virginia is 4-1 against ranked opponents this season with wins over No. 3 Gonzaga, No. 24 Arizona, No. 7 Kansas and No. 2 Iowa State and its only loss was at No. 10 Houston.
WVU also made gains in the computer rankings following Saturday’s win. KenPom moved West Virginia up seven spots from No. 44 up to No. 37 this week. The NCAA’s NET Rankings have WVU at No. 30, up from No. 32.
This week, WVU basketball hosts Arizona State Tuesday for a 9 p.m. tipoff in the Coliseum and then travels for a 6 p.m. game at Kansas State Saturday.
