Weston Mazey Continues Family Lineage By Signing with WVU Baseball
The Mazey family lineage continues for the WVU baseball program with the signing of Weston Mazey, the son of the recently retired coach, on Tuesday.
After committing back in January of 2023, Mazey’s signing solidifies his journey to becoming a Mountaineer. He’s been a three-year starter at the local Morgantown High School, posting a .272 average, 53 total hits, 43 RBI and a home run throughout his high school career.
“It’s been a lot of years in the making. I’ve been looking forward to it for a while. I’ve always wanted to play for WVU. it’s going to be really special,” said Mazey while singing his letter of intent. His mother Amanda Mazey added “it was always WVU baseball” as her caption to a video of the her son announcing his decision.

Mazey, a 2025 prospect, is considered a middle infielder at the college level by Perfect Game.

In Randy Mazey’s final season in 2024, Mazey led West Virginia to new heights as the Mountaineers reached an NCAA Super Regional for the first time in program history. Overall, WVU finished the season 36-24 which included going 3-0 in the NCAA Tucson Regional. He was named the 2024 ABCA East Region Coach of the Year.
For the eighth consecutive year, the Mountaineers were in ranked in the Top 25, climbing into the top 15 in multiple polls to end the season.
In 12 seasons with West Virginia, Randy Mazey went 372-274 and was a two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year in addition to his regional honors. Overall, in 18 seasons as a head coach, Mazey went 558-434-2.
