WVU Women’s Basketball Avenges Prior Loss, Blows Out Buffaloes

WVU Women’s Basketball dispatched the Colorado Buffaloes 73-46 at the WVU Coliseum on Wednesday, Jan. 15, avenging their December loss in Boulder with an authoritative win.
The N0. 20 ranked Mountaineers (14-3, 4-2 Big 12) forced 30 turnovers, scoring 39 points off those plays, and limited Colorado to a 38.3 field goal success rate. JJ Quinerly and Sydney Shaw led the field with 19 points apiece, the latter making four shots from three.
Colorado surged ahead early with a 14-0 run, snapped by a Shaw three-pointer that sent WVU to the second period trailing 22-15. The Mountaineers took control in the second period, forcing ten turnovers and limiting the Buffaloes to just one made shot on 14 attempts. The frame began with a three-point shot from Sydney Shaw and ended with one from Sydney Woodley, the latter at the buzzer to put West Virginia ahead 31-24.
Colorado wasn’t done yet, however, as they ripped off the next run, holding the Mountaineers scoreless for the first three minutes out of the break and taking the lead after a pair of three-pointers from Frida Formann, the only Buffaloes player to finish the game in double digit points (11). Kyah Watson drilled a three of her own to snap the drought and reclaim the lead, sparking an 18-2 run that put West Virginia ahead for good.
The Mountaineers kept the pressure up in the fourth quarter โ perhaps recalling their drastic blown lead against Colorado on Saturday, Dec. 21 โ holding the Buffaloes without a bucket until there was just 3:43 to play… and no time to mount a comeback.
