Finkley (6-foot-2, 250 pounds), an Alabama native who was once one of Texas’ top recruits, only appeared in six games and saw his play count reduced in 2024. He entered the transfer portal on Dec. 13 and will now play his final season of eligibility with the Jayhawks.
After recording seven tackles as a freshman in 2022, Finkley had his most productive season occur in 2023. He played in all of Texas’ 14 games while totaling 14 tackles, three tackles for a loss, two sacks and a forced fumble.
He has 26 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble so far in his college career.
Finkley took a trip to West Virginia to check out the facility and meet with the WVU coaching staff on Jan. 7. He also visited and talked with a few other notable programs, including Minnesota and Georgia Tech.
