Strong Week Sends WVU Women Up Top 25 Ranking

WVU women’s basketball had one of its best weeks of the season and made a sizable rise in the AP Top 25 poll as a result.
This week, the Mountaineers (15-3, 5-2 Big 12) check in at No. 16 in the poll, up four spots from a week ago. West Virginia picked up two important home wins this week, over Colorado and Iowa State.

On Wednesday, WVU avenged one of its losses this season by beating the Buffaloes 73-46. Colorado pulled off a fourth-quarter comeback over the Mountaineers last month and WVU returned the favor last week.
West Virginia led 49-40 after three quarters but outscored CU 24-6 in the fourth to pull away late. Sydney Shaw and JJ Quinerly each scored 19 points to lead four Mountaineers in double figures.
Then on Sunday, WVU rode a hot start to an 82-68 win over Iowa State. West Virginia doubled up the Cyclones, 30-15, in the first quarter.
Quinerly scored 20 to tie Jordan Harrison for the team lead. Kyah Watson logged a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Other ranked Big 12 teams this week include No. 9 TCU, No. 10 Kansas State and No. 25 Baylor.
The WVU women head out west this week to play at Arizona State Wednesday and at Arizona Saturday. Both games will tip off at 8:30 p.m.
