Former WVU HC Bob Huggins stated on the Full Court Press Radio show that he did not want to sue West Virginia University during the summer of 2023. Huggins appeared on the show with co-hosts Derek Bailey, Michael Susman, and Anthony Lewis on Tuesday, responding to Hoppy Kercheval’s commentary.

Kercheval talked about the timeline leading to Huggins’ resignation and following that. Huggins responded to Kercheval by stating that he told his attorney that they were not going to sue WVU.

“I’ve got nothing to hide because that’s not remotely anything that I said. In fact, if I remember correctly, I told my attorney no we’re not doing that. We’re not suing anybody, particularly not my University,” Huggins said.

Huggins also responded to the people who think he hasn’t taken responsibility for his anti-gay slur on the Cincinnati radio waves and his DUI arrest in Pittsburgh.

“That’s not true, I’ve done nothing but take responsibility,” Huggins said. “Let’s be honest, I’ve have had people shooting at me. I’ve got people that really shouldn’t be talking about anybody and they’re throwing a lot of daggers at me and I haven’t responded.”

Back during his first episode in November, Huggins apologized for his actions, admitting that he went to rehab on his own as well.

“I felt terrible about it and I still feel terrible about it. I let down certainly the players, fans, the state of West Virginia. I fully recognize that and take responsibility for that,” he said. “I didn’t really know what to do at that point in time. You go through what you have to go through after that, and I did that. Then I said I’m going to rehab. So I went to rehab. I did that on my own, no one told me to do that. I went to rehab because I thought that was the right thing to do, that’s what I needed to do. I spent a great deal of time in rehab.”

It does raise the question why Wheeling attorney Bob Fitzsimmons backed out of representing Huggins on July 11, with Fitzsimmons saying, “with any matter related to West Virginia University.” WVU AD Wren Baker told the media in December that the legal noise quieted down. But Huggins is denying any desire to sue WVU.

Huggins will continue to join the Full Court Press show throughout the rest of the season to discuss basketball.
