In a press release this afternoon, WVU Athletics announced plans for the return of football coaches, staff and student-athletes to Morgantown and WVU facilities.

The Big 12 Conference announced last week that football student-athletes would be permitted to return to on-campus facilities for voluntary workouts beginning on June 15. In accordance with this, WVU has announced its phase one plan for football’s return.

“Phase one is the first step to getting Mountaineer football ready for the 2020 season,” WVU Athletic Director Shane Lyons said via release. “This two-week phased approach enables us to safely get our football staff and players back to campus and will provide the guidance for the return of other student-athletes starting in July.”

The program’s phase one plan will include two two-week periods for screening, distancing, cleaning and sanitation. The first two-week period, from June 8-22 will be for coaches and staff while June 15-29 will be for the student-athletes. All members will be tested for COVID-19 72 hours before their return and must test negative to be allowed inside WVU facilities.

Members will also need to follow CDC protocols, including limited personnel in facilities, wearing face coverings, daily screening and temperature checks and proper social distancing. The team will continue to have virtual meetings.
