Former Mountaineer Gabe Osabuohien Caps Off Another Successful Backpack Giveaway
Former Mountaineer Gabe Osabuohien capped off another successful Backpack Giveaway with a stop at Toothman Ford in Grafton. For the second straight year, Osabuohien helped give school supplies to kids all across West Virginian in a summer tour that ended on Thursday.
“Got bigger this year, was able to add two more locations. So it’s definitely been great. I just aim to get bigger and better every year,” said the ex WVU star while discussing his Backpack Giveaway program at the Toothman Ford location.

Osabuohien also stopped in Logan County, Raine County, St. Albans, the Kegler’s Clubhouse in Morgantown and Fairmont before getting to Grafton.
Last summer was the first year Osabuohien gave away supplies in different areas of the state.
“Excited to announce my 2nd backpack giveaway, last year was special can’t wait for this year! Please share and help and let’s make a difference together,” Osabuohien wrote on social media to promote the August giveaway in July.
Osabuohien appeared in 35 games for the Cleveland Charge, the NBA G-League affiliate for the Cavaliers this past season. Osabuohien also appeared in a Canadian league, averaging 6.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 2.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.0 steals during his rookie season.
Osabuohien spent three seasons at West Virginia after transferring from Arkansas in 2019. The fifth-year senior appeared in 87 games from 2019-22, averaging 3.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.4 blocks. Osabuohien won a share of the 2022 Co-Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year award.
